Diesel and Turbine Alternators

Diesel-driven and turbine-driven alternators are designed maintenance-free as brushless synchronous machines with a self-contained exciter for constant voltage output and short response time whenever larger consumers are switched on and off. They have laminated salient pole rotors or drum rotors, ball bearings or sleeve bearings and are air cooled by machinery room air or in a closed cooling air circuit with an air/water heat exchanger (cooler).
