Most of the freighters and tankers are provided with bow
respectively stern thrusters with controllable pitch propellers
(CPP) and constant speed drives. Thrusters with special
requirements are designed with fixed pitch propellers (FPP) and
speed controlled electric drives. The dynamic characteristic of
these drives is excellent specially in combination with a
dynamic positioning system.
