SAM Electronics at Cruise Shipping Miami 2009
Hamburg, 10 February 2009 - Among a wide range of exhibits,
SAM Electronics, an L-3 Communications company, will feature its
USCG type-approved Multipilot 1100 multi-functional navigation system
combining ARPA radar, ECDIS, conning and automatic steer-ing control
functions. The company will be located in Hall B, German Pavilion,
Booth No 2057-10.
With seven successful deliveries in 2008 SAM Electronics enjoyed again
notable success in the cruise sector last year. As an example, Celebrity
Cruises new cruise vessel, Celebrity Solstice, was fitted with SAM
Electronics’ NACOS 65-5 integrated navigation command system
featuring a radar-controlled Trackpilot, Multipilot, ECDIS and state-of-the-art
sensors. Designed to DNV NAUT AW and LR IBS standards and also
featuring high levels of system redundancy, the complete assembly
functionally integrates radar, ECDIS and autopilot operations. In a track
mode, planned routes and turn radii can be steered with an accuracy of
better than half the beam of own ship using precise position and speed
measurement sen-sors.
Current users of NACOS systems include Carnival Cruise Lines,
Costa Crociere, AIDA Cruises, Cunard, NCL, MSC Cruises, the
Hurtigruten Group, Holland America Line, P&O Princess Cruises,
Radisson Seven Seas, Celebrity Cruises and Star Cruises.
Seabourn Cruises will get the first vessel with this system, the
Seabourn Odyssey, in summer 2009.
Furthermore SAM Electronics is engaged in providing retrofit solutions for
the existing fleet of their customers too. Recent projects have been
realized for Celebrtity Cruises, NCL, CCL and Princess Cruises.
The order of a retrofit for a full scale Integrated Bridge System of the
Golden Princess will be the last one for a series out of three. After
completion of this vessel the complete Grand Princess class which was
build in the late nineties will be equipped with a state of the art NACOS of
the last generation. This success story is just another example for the
confidence of the cruise industry in SAM Electronics products.
SAM Electronics will also present its diesel-electric propulsion capabilities.
The operation and control of these systems ensure a high degree of safety
because of a redundant system layout and the unique design of the SAM
Electronics' frequency converters. Cruise liners to be delivered to Seabourn
Cruises and Silversea Cruises and tankers for AHL Shipping as well as
mega yachts, offshore and naval vessels take the advantages of this
modern and reliable concept.
SAM Electronics will also demonstrate its turn-key electrical solutions for
new-building and retrofit which has been proven in many different projects.
For the P&O Arcadia the passen-ger capacity was extended by additional
new cabins. In addition to the entire electrical instal-lation SAM Electronics
was also selected as the supplier for the internal communication package
consisting of fire detection, public address / general alarm system,
telephone as well as broadcasting and TV systems. The retrofit was
successfully realised in record time.
