ECDIS type specific training at SAM training center in
2nd half of 2012
General remark
At the beginning of the year 2012 ECDIS is one of the
mandatory equipment for IMO-ships. In a time schedule up to
2018 all types of IMO-ships require ECDIS equipment and
adequate ECDIS education. Several shipping companies has
started to find out the partner for the two different kind of ECDIS
training the generic and the type specific training for operational
use of ECDIS.
The appropriate official regulation states:

1) After the 01.01.2012 the Manila Amendments 2010 to the
STCW Convention come into force
Generic ECDIS Training: Certificate of Competency (CoC)
Documentation of adequate ECDIS competencies in accordance
with the regulations II/1 (officer in charge of a navigational
watch), regulation II/2 (chief mate / master) or regulation II/3
(officer in charge of a navigational watch / master on ships up to
500 GT, in near coastal voyages) of the Annex to the STCW
Convention are provided through the issuance of appropriate
CoC’s to deck officers and masters and not through any
document of evidence (DocE).
Provided that evidence of adequate competencies has been
documented, CoC’s can be issued without any limitations
regarding to ECDIS competencies. Plausible adequate
competencies could be documented through:
- Evidence of training according to No. 2.3. (Generic ECDIS
training: transitional arrangements),
- Presentation of DocE of courses which have been approved by
the BSH according to No. 2.4 (generic ECDIS training
approved ECDIS courses),
- Presentation of comparable training and DocE, which have
been approved by the maritime administration of an European
Economic Area (EEA) member state. …..
Generic ECDIS Training:
Approved ECDIS courses:
After the 01.01.2012 all generic ECDIS training must be
approved by the Administration of each contracting Party to the
STCW Convention, provided that they issue certificates in
accordance with regulations II/1, II/2 and II/3 of the Annex to the
STCW Convention. The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic
Agency (BSH) will be responsible for the approval of ECDIS
courses on behalf of Germany as a contracting Party.
These courses can be approved by the BSH or any other
contracting Party to the STCW Convention in respect to the
Manila Amendments, as soon as these Amendments come into
force on the 01.01.2012.

2)Type Specific ECDIS Training

In accordance with the ISM Code each ship operator must make
sure that every master and deck officer has received ship
specific ECDIS training, in order to safely operate the ECDIS
equipment installed on board.
Accordingly, the responsibility for the implementation of specific
ECDIS training is by the company.
Every ECDIS familiarisation training in the efficient use of the
ship specific ECDIS equipment should be documented in an
appropriate manner. This familiarisation training supplements the
generic training…

Shipping companies has started to find partners for providing
both kinds of training. In the current education, nearly each
nautical officer received the generic ECDIS training. This is not
the case for the type specific training.
In conclusion of this SAM Electronics GmbH likes to introduce
the enhanced number of ECDIS type specific training in the 2nd
half of the running year.
This training will be given at both ECDIS generations the
“CHARTPILOT 93x0/1100” and the newest ECDISPILOT
(Platinum). Both courses run one day each. It is possible to
combine the courses for both generations with subsequent
days.

contract terms.
Prices do not include sales taxes (value added tax). They will be charged with the rate valid at the time of delivery or performance respectively if applicable.

The training includes:
- manuals or/and the same as an e-version on USB-memory,
course framework.
- free lunch and refreshment during the course
- free phone, fax and web access in SAM TRAINING CENTER
during the course run
The course does not include:
- costs for local transportation and hotel
- costs for catering outside from SAM TRAINING CENTER
On your request, SAM Electronics GmbH can arrange hotel
admission and local transport. For this financial service we take a
handling fee of 15 percent at the end-price for hotel and local
transport.
Course cancellation conditions:
After firm reservation of a course place, the cancellation is
possible w/o any charge up to a period of 4 weeks before it will
start.
Up to two weeks before the course will start a cancellation fee of
10 percent of the course price is due. Only one week before the
course will start the cancellation fee is 20 percent and 30 percent
if there is less than one week before the course will start.
For short order of training, the above-mentioned cancellation
conditions starts accordingly. The exchange of participants
against other persons is free of any charge.

Time-schedule:
Start at 09:00 o'clock; end at about 16:00 depends of course' progress.
Number of participants:
The minimum number of participants is four. If there are less than four trainees, we have to charge the minimum number of participants. We will accept up to eight.
Price:
The price per person and day is 400,00 € (Euro)
Training content:
The course participants will receive training with following main-tops:
1) refresh of generic ECDIS content
2) Familiarisation with available function of the interface
3) Familiarisation with the menu structure of all graphical user interfaces
4) Setup of the display
5) Setup of the safety-settings
6) Recognition of alarms and malfunction indicators and the actions to be taken
7) Route planning
8) Route monitoring
9) Loading charts and licenses
10) back-up system, maintenance, auxiliary functions
