Shaft Alternators/Take Home Drives

Port and water protection authorities require redundant
propulsion systems for freighters and tankers carrying
hazardous and inflammable goods during loading if the main
engine is nor ready for operation. This requirement is fulfilled by
our combined shaft motor drive and shaft alternator system
which supplies the mains consumers during normal sea
operation in a special economic matter.

Other aspects are the following:

n When trouble happens with
the main engine during
travelling the ship can reach
at least a safe anchorage if
not a safe port

n For more flexible operation
of the propulsion plant with
higher ship speed and for
adaptation to various sea
conditions and time sche-
dules the electrical shaft
motor system can be used
as booster drive supporting
the main engine.

n If local port authorities have
stringent pollution standards
the sahft motor drive can be
used in port producing less
air pollutants
